BRIDGE OVRE THE CHAPECÓ RIVER

BR-282 HIGHWAY CHAPECÓ (SC)

CHALLENGE The external pillars on both banks exhibited considerable horizontal detachment, tilting, cracks and fissures; the neoprene structural bearings were out of place. Due to the type of structure design, if the external pillar collapsed it would take the whole structure with it.
SOLUTION The first step was the building of an anchored retaining wall to confine the rock fills. The superstructure was reinforced to prevent vertical oscillation with heavy traffic. New pillars were incorporated to the original ones, returning to the original support axis. Reinforcements and concrete were installed on the driving lanes, in addition to filling in the cracks on the structures.
